Back to DirectorySolomon Tesfu, Ph.D., is associate professor of economics at Mount St. Mary's University. He graduated with a Ph.D. in economics from Georgia State University and M.Sc. and B.A. in Economics from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. Before he joined Mount St. Mary's University in the fall of 2011, he worked as a post-doctoral researcher at Syracuse University as part of a team of researchers working on a spatial distribution of healthcare prices in the U.S. for the Fairheath Project.
Previously, Tesfu was a lecturer in economics at Addis Ababa University where he taught various economics and quantitative courses for six years. While working for Addis Ababa University, he coordinated a number of field research projects for various international organizations including the World Bank and International Food Policy Research Institute. He currently uses part of the data gathered through those field research projects for his research on the effects of early childhood malnutrition on child health and schooling as well as poverty, happiness and risk preferences.
