Natalie Smith

Coordinator for Athletic Pep Band

Development

Natalie Smith holds the new position at Mount St. Mary’s University of pep band coordinator. She is also currently teaching elementary instrumental music in Baltimore County Public Schools. Smith is a recent graduate of East Carolina University, where she completed her Master of Music degree in performance. While pursuing her degree, she was the teaching assistant for the ECU Marching Pirates and Pep Band, as well as the ECU Flute Studio. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in music education from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where she was a member and on the executive board for Sigma Alpha Iota Music Fraternity, section leader for three years and assisting officer for one year of the IUP Marching Band: “The Legend,” and president of the Pennsylvania Collegiate Music Educators Association for three years.

Smith is an active performer and educator. She has performed in many ensembles including university ensembles, as well as professional ensembles including New Carolina Sinfonia, Eastern Symphony Orchestra and the Trent River Chamber Orchestra. She is also an active free-lance artist, performing solo in many churches, schools and other various venues. In addition to teaching public school and at the university level, Smith also holds a private studio of flute, piano and saxophone students of all ages. She teaches master classes at the university level as well as at the high school level, and is a frequent adjudicator for honor ensemble auditions.

Smith has a passion for pep band, as it is something she has been a part of since high school, all the way through to graduate school. She is very excited to be in this position to build a brand new ensemble at Mount St. Mary’s University, and bring another level of spirit to the Mount's athletic events!
