Michael Hoover is the former associate director of the Institute for Leadership, Ethics, Achievement and Development (iLEAD) at MSMU with forty-two years of previous experience as both a Catholic and public secondary English educator. As a former county-wide leadership team member and department chair for Carroll County Public Schools, he is familiar with curriculum writing and implementation and state assessment alignment, as well as mentoring teacher candidates and non-tenured faculty.

He taught both AP English Language and AP English Literature. Editor of four poetry books, editing his second non-fiction book and author of Better Left Unsaid, he is a gallery shown and award winning photographer; his poetry has been nominated for a Pushcart prize. He established and co-directed for six years a writing center serving 1300 students. He is also a twenty-year veteran of directing theater.

He served as Greater Hanover Area Poet Laureate for two consecutive two-year terms during which he authored a weekly column showcasing local and traditional poetical talent and educating the public on poetry. Hoover also instructed SAT Evidence-based, Critical Reading and Writing prep for Penn State York and was PA Regional Coordinator for Poetry Out Loud.
