James Tung

Lecturer in Violin and Viola

Department of Visual and Performing Arts

James Tung has performed as a soloist with the Frederick Symphony Orchestra, and held recitals at Frederick Community College and Shippensburg University. Currently the Assistant Concertmaster of the York Symphony, he is the former Concertmaster of the Frederick Symphony Orchestra. A frequent Chamber Musician at McDaniel College, Mount St. Mary’s University, and Gettysburg College, James Tung also performs with the Annapolis Symphony, Gettysburg Chamber Orchestra and Maryland Symphony. He attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, NY where he received a bachelor's degree in Violin Performance.

Currently an adjunct professor at Mount St. Mary's University, James has spearheaded the university's first ever string ensemble. During his stay at Frederick Community College, the studio of James Tung, received the most George L. Shields Scholarships along with other community scholarships. His students consistently make-up the Concertmaster and Principal 2nd positions in neighboring orchestras and summer festivals. In the past 10 years, three of his students have won the Frederick Regional Youth Orchestra Concerto Competition and two have been runner-up.
